Brad Pitt’s highly anticipated sports dramaF1is set to race into theaters this weekend, and if its Rotten Tomatoes score is any indication, it appears as if the film will be a huge hit. Crossing the finish line with a Certified Fresh rating of 88% from critics, that’s a 10-point jump compared to the fresh rating of 78% that it debuted with last week, signifying thatTop Gun: Maverickdirector Joseph Kosinski’s latest has what it takes to go full throttle at the box office.
“I found myself, at times, digging my nails into the arms of my chair,' said critic William Mullally from The National, adding that “few movies literally place me on the edge of my seat, and F1 was one of them.” How’s that for building anticipation? Sheraz Farooqi from CinemaDebate was another who had high praise forF1, going so far as to call it “one of the best films of 2025”:

“F1 is a directing masterclass by Joseph Kosinski. If you loved Top Gun Maverick’s kinetic pacing and fluid style, you’ll love this film. Strong sound design, cinematography, score, and performances all around create one of the best films of 2025.”
‘F1’ Movie Cast & Character Guide
Get acquainted with the cast and characters in Joseph Kosinski’s Formula One racing movie ‘F1.’
Starring Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver turned NYC cabbie,F1sees him come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua “Noah” Pearce (Damson Idris) for the Apex Grand Prix team. It’s fitting that the film debuts the same weekend as the Austrian Grand Prix, and for MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman, despite its “formulaic” plot (no pun intended), he said in his reviewthatF1is still worth your time:

“F1 succeeds in its primary goal of bringing the thrills of elite motorsport racing to the silver screen, as Brad Pitt kicks asphalt in a pedal-to-the-metal summer blockbuster that’ll get your adrenaline pumping.”
‘F1’ Is “Everything You Want In a Summer Blockbuster”
Also starring Javier Bardem, the incomparable Shea Whigham, Kerry Condon, and Kim Bodnia,F1is on track to make anywhere between $35 and $40 million in its opening weekend, which is a far cry from its $200 million budget. However, those are just domestic box office projections, meaning the film will most likely take in significantly more as it opens around the globe, and more people get the chance to see what critic Zach Pope says is “everything you want in a summer blockbuster.”
Cary Darling from the Houston Chronicle was anotherF1champion, saying it’s the perfect movie for these trying times. Sadly, he didn’t offer us any eggs (kudos to the three people that got that joke):

“In what’s turning into a long, hot summer full of unnerving news in the wider world, F1: The Movie offers a refuge of air-conditioned escapism. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.”
Of course, at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, not everyone is in love withF1, but the naysayers are largely in the dust here, as the film promises to be a thrill ride that’s definitely meant to be seen on the big screen. you may check it out when it hits theaters on Friday, June 27, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Apple Original Films.
