Earlier this week, Universal Pictures shifted theUntitled Matt Damon Bourne Sequelfrom August 24, 2025 to June 12, 2025, which bringsMatt Damonback as Jason Bourne for the first time since 2007’sThe Bourne Ultimatum. The actor had stated for years that he will not revisit the role unlessPaul Greengrasscomes back to direct, but back in September, Universal announced that this long-awaited sequel is finally happening. Ever since then, fans have been wondering if the studio plans on showcasing bothMatt Damon’s Jason Bourne andJeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross from 2012’sThe Bourne Legacyin the same movie, since it isn’t clear what is happening with theUntitled Jeremy Renner Bourne Sequel. During a new interview withCollider, producerFrank Marshallset the record straight, revealing that they have no plans to bring Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross together.
“We don’t have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that’s not the plan. They’re on separate tracks.”
Since Bourne and Cross are on “separate tracks,” that means the studio is still planning on making theUntitled Jeremy Renner Bourne Sequel, but it isn’t known when those plans will come to fruition.Justin Linis attached to direct from a script byAnthony Peckham, but it isn’t known when that sequel may get off the ground. The producer added that the biggest challenge in gettingMatt DamonandPaul Greengrassback together for anotherBournemovie was finding a story that everyone wanted to move forward with.
“It was really the challenge of finding the story. If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn’t have a story. It’s taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to. Now, we’re moving forward.”
