Until now,Blumhouse Productionshas terrified (and cracked up) audiences with movies likeM3GAN,Get Out,Halloween(2018), andHappy Death Day. But, as part of a recently announced initiative, they’re about to start terrifying audiences in a whole new video format with Blumhouse Games. Leading the newly created venture will be Zach Woods as President and Don Sechler as CFO. This information comes fromBloody Disgusting.
“For some time we have been looking to build out a team to start accessing the growth opportunity in interactive media. When we sat with Zach and Don they articulated an approach that resonated with Blumhouse’s model and we knew it was a perfect place for us to start our push into the interactive space,” said Abhijay Prakash, Blumhouse President.

What kind of games can you expect from Blumhouse? Well, similar to what the parent company has done with the films they make, Blumhouse Games will target low-budget projects, below $10M, for the sake of “innovation and pushing creative boundaries.” To fulfill that mandate, the new subsidiary of the multimedia company will team up with indie game developers to create original horror games for PC, mobile, and consoles.
At this time, it’s probably worth remembering that for the past several years, Blumhouse Productions has beenworking onFive Nights at Freddy’s—an adaptation of an indie horror game series that will star Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson. So while Blumhouse Games will focus on original projects for now, perhaps a new collaboration withFNaFcreator Scott Cawthon is on the horizon. But, of course, as of yet, there’s been no official confirmation of that.

Woods has spent over 25 years as a video game producer for every major platform. “Through my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with developers to bring their ideas to life. There’s a unique opportunity for horror and genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled about teaming up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the company’s brand, reputation, and creative talent,” said Wood.
Sechler, meanwhile, worked as the head of finance, operations, and strategy at Sony PlaySation’s publisher and developer relations function. He assisted with “business development deals for the development, marketing, and distribution of games ranging from the largest IP in video games to first-time developers.” In 2013, Sechler helped break barriers between PlayStation and third-party game creators, leading to $150M in content.
“With their experience, sensibility and knowledge of the gaming marketplace Zach and Don are the ideal leaders to leverage Blumhouse’s unique genre strengths into gaming,” said Prakash.
