Official merchandise from Marvel’sBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverhas revealed a major change that will be made toNamor and Atlantis when the character makes his MCU debut. Thanks to an official tie-in figure andHasbro, it has now been revealed that Namor will not rule Atlantis in theBlack Panthersequel, and will instead be the king of Talocan — with Marvel seemingly removing Atlantis entirely.

“The ruler of Talocan, an ancient civilization hidden in the depths of the ocean, Namor will stop at nothing to protect his people.”

So, it seems that Atlantis is no more, with the live-action Namor instead ruling the ancient underwater civilization Talocan. This major change has surely been made to distance Namor from DC’s Aquaman, who is also the king of Atlantis, with Talocan further leaning into the Aztec iconography that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Namor will be draped in.

The civilization Talocan is likely derived from Tlālōcān, a land described in several Aztec codices as a paradise, ruled over by the rain deity Tlāloc and his consort Chalchiuhtlicue, an Aztec deity of water, rivers, seas, streams, storms. We have known for some time that Namor would possess an Aztec flavor, and it seems that the character will, in fact, be depicted as a part of Aztec mythology, with he and Namora no doubt standing in for the gods of Aztec myth.

Tenoch Huerta Will Portray Namor inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever

After months and months of rumor, it has now been confirmed that Mexican actorTenoch Huertawill portray Namor the Submariner inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever. The first trailer revealed the character in all his glory, with Namor looking a lot like the silver age version of the underwater king, sporting green trunks, pointy ears, and winged ankles. Huerta will be joined by Mabel Cadena as Namora.

Huerta has now broken his silence over joining the MCU, revealing what it was like when he donned his superhero costume for the first time. “It’s amazing,” the actor began. “I mean everyone pretends to be a superhero or to be part of movies or whatever, and then you are part of it. You are the superhero, and then you are wearing the costume. It’s your skin, your voice, your brain, your talent, your story. It’s overwhelming.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverwill center on Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba)as they fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.
