Netflix found huge success with the original post-apocalyptic thriller filmBird Box, directed by Susanne Bier and released in 2018. The film follows Malorie Hayes (Sandra Bullock) as she tries to protect her children from entities which cause people to die by suicide if they look directly at them. InBird Box, Sandra Bullock starred in the lead role as Malore, a pregnant woman who found refuge in a house full of strangers and finds herself caring for two children while battling the elements and extra-terrestrial forces, all while searching for a rumored sanctuary, blindfolded. Bullock’s career spans 20 decades, and some of her most notable work includesMiss Congeniality,Speed,Ocean’s 8,,andGravity. AfterBird Box, Bullock unsurprisingly continued to star in successful films such asThe Unforgivablewhich was directed by Nora Fingscheidt and premiered on Netflix in 2021. Trevante Rhodes
Trevante Rhodes plays Tom, who is a survivor that helps Malorie and eventually ends up falling in love with her. Rhodes previously achieved acclaim by playing Chiron in the Academy Award-winning filmMoonlight. AfterBird Box, he appeared inThe United States vs. Billie Holidaywhich stars Andra Day as the lead in the biographical film. Rhodes starred as Jimmy Fletcher and his performance was well received by critics.
John Malkovich
John Malkovich played Douglas, who was one of the tougher survivors that put himself in harm’s way to protect the other survivors. Malkovich already boasts an incredibly strong filmography, with features hit films such asMulholland Falls,Shadow of the Vampire,Johnny English,Junoand most notablyBeing John Malkovich. Since his role inBird Box, seven more films have already been theatrically released which he has starred in — most notably,Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, where he played Judge Edward Cowart, who featured in the Ted Bundy case, as well as his role as Duke in 2020’sAva. Malkovich also found success in TV with his role as Dr. Adrian Mallory in the showSpace Fore.
Jacki Weaver
Jacki Weaver played Cheryl, who was crucial to helping her fellow survivors stay safe and alive. Weaver already featured notable credits through her work inThe Silver Linings Playbookas well asThe Five-Year Engagement, and she has continued to star in successful films, such asPoms, where she played Cheryl, andThe Grudge, where she portrayed Lorna Moody.

Sarah Paulson had a brief appearance in the film as Jessica and was killed off close to the beginning, which shocked viewers as she was one of the most recognizable faces of the film. Danielle Macdonald
Danielle Macdonald played Olympia who was responsible for the demise of most of the original survivors. She had guest starred on shows such asGleebefore her appearance inBird Box, and then found success in other Netflix films such asDumplinand the sci-fi thrillerParadise Hills.
