The wonderful Rhea Seehorn still has yet to receive her first Emmy nomination for playing the brilliant Kim Wexler onBetter Call Saul, and seeing the actress getting snubbed once again after the show’s best season yet has left many fans of the AMC series feeling completely shocked. Since the first season of theBreaking Badspin-off, Seehorn has Seehorn has shined as the fan favorite character, and five seasons in, it’s pretty clear to the fans that the critically-acclaimed series just simply would not have been quite as great without the woman Saul Goodman knows as the “world’s best lawyer.”

With a total of 23 nominations all coming up short since the series began its run in 2015, patient fans have been hoping to see the show finally get an Emmy after a riveting fifth season featuring some particularly strong performances. Many fans have been rooting for Seehorn in particular to get the honor this time, considering her work in season 5 to be the standout performance of the season. The oneBetter Call Saulstar to get an Emmy nomination this year is Giancarlo Esposito, who’s up for a Best Supporting Actor award for playing Los Pollos Hermanos manager (and secret drug lord) Gustavo Fring. This is Esposito’s third nomination for the same role, as he’d previously been nominated for playing Gus on bothBreaking BadandBetter Call Saulin the past. Of course, this also means that Bob Odenkirk is oddly absent from the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, and anyone who’s seen the season 5 episode “Bagman” should also find that snub to be rather surprising as well.
Fortunately,Better Call Sauldid manage to snag a few other Emmy nominations in addition to Esposito’s Best Supporting Actor nod. The big one here is that the show is still up for Outstanding Drama series, facing off with other popular shows likeThe Crown,The Handmaid’s Tale,Killing Eve,The Mandalorian,Ozark,Stranger Things, andSuccession. The series is also in the running for Outstanding Short Form Comedy for its “Employee Training: Legal Ethics with Kim Wexler” videos, as well as audio awards for the popular episode, “Bagman,” and an Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series award for the episodes, “Bad Choice Road” and “Bagman.”

Scheduled to be released in 2021, the upcoming sixth season will provide closure to the series by revealing what ultimately happens to Seehorn’s character – something not touched upon in the parent series.
