Death Wish (July 1)

Based on the 1972 same-named novel, this film stars Charles Bronson as a man whose family suffers a home invasion. When his wife dies in the attack, Branson’s Paul Kersey becomes a justice-seeking vigilante.

Despite receiving mixed reviews at the time of release,Death Wishspawned four sequelsand a 2018 Bruce Willis-led reboot. The controversy stemmed from the film’s support for vigilanteism and Bronson’s judge-jury-and-executioner style of punishing criminals. G.I. Jane (July 1)

Shh, quiet. No one tell Will Smith about this one. G.I. Jane tells a fictional story of the first woman who partook in the special ops training used by the US Navy SEALs.

These days, the movie is more remembered for the Oscars incident than anything it achieved on its own. It was a box office bomb, and lead Demi Moore won the Razzie for Worst Actress. Not even director Ridley Scott or supporting cast members Viggo Mortensen, Anne Bancroft, and Jason Beghe could save it, which is likely why Chris Rock’s proposed sequel has not gone forward.

Cruise in Interview with the Vampire

Interview with the Vampire (July 1)

Anne Rice’s novel first made the jump to the big screen with this 1994 film. The story chronicles human Louis de Pointe du Lac, who was attacked by vampire Lestat de Lioncourt in the 1790s. Louis is transformed into a vampire, and he and Lestat later turn the 10-year-old Claudia into one as well.
