Way back in June, just before Comic-Con 2015 got under way, a report surfaced that claimedBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticestarBen Affleck, who plays The Dark Knight, had been set to both star in and direct a soloBatman Reboot, which Warner Bros. was eyeing for release in 2018. The report was never confirmed, but just a few weeks later, another report surfaced that claimed he’s not only directing and starring in aBatman reboot, but that he’s co-writing the script withDC Comics' chief creative officerGeoff Johns. We still haven’t gotten any official word on this project from Warner Bros., but the actor-director recently spoke toUSA Today, where he revealed that working withBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticedirectorZack Snyder"inspired" him.
“I’ll just say going through the process, I would never have imagined that I could or would direct a movie like this. And in working with (Batman v SupermandirectorZack Snyder) and seeing what he did and watching him every day, I got really inspired by that and by seeing the scope on which he was telling the story, by seeing what he was able to do with this kind of mythic story on a grand scale.”
While this certainly isn’t a confirmation that he is writing, directing and starring in the currently Untitled Batman Reboot, it certainly does hint that he’s up to the challenge. The July report claimed thatBen Affleckwas son “in sync” with his co-writerGeoff Johns, that they were on track to finish a screenplay by the end of the summer. Yet another report claimed that this movie would start a standalone Batman trilogy, but like all of the reports before it, that was never confirmed.
For a movie that hasn’t even been officially announced yet, there certainly are a lot of rumors swirling around it. In October, another report claimed that iconic villains such as Red Hood and The Joker would appear in the movie, while the last update we received last month claimed thatSuicide SquadstarWill Smithwill reprise his role as Deadshot in the movie. We knowBen Affleck’s Batman will return inSuicide Squad, but it isn’t known if he has any interactions withDeadshot.
Ben Affleckis currently directing Warner Bros.' thrillerLive by Night, which he also stars in alongsideZoe Saldana,Sienna MillerandElle Fanning. The studio has tentatively set a 2017 release for the movie, but it isn’t known when production is scheduled to wrap quite yet. We know the director-actor will be back for the two-partJustice League Part 1andJustice League Part 2, which will shoot back to back at the end of this year. What do you think aboutBen Affleckdirecting and starring in a newBatman Reboot?
