Avengers: Endgamewas all Marvel Cinematic Universe fans could think about for a year. Speculation and rumors spread like wildfire, including information about the title from all over everywhere. Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers went out of their way to make sure nothing substantial about the movie leaked to give MCU fans the best possible moviegoing experience they possibly could. And for the most part, they set out what they were trying to do. Now, the Russos are discussing why the spoiler ban was so important after the movie was released in theaters.
Not everybody has the time or money to drop everything and head out to see a movie on opening night, no matter how much time they had to prepare. Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers know this, which is why theEndgame spoiler banwas so important to them. The press and social media were not able to openly discuss spoilers without fair warning and it seems to have worked out pretty well. Joe Russo had this to say.
“This is the environment we live in now. We can’t control the internet. It’s its own monster. Whether there’s malicious intent or compulsive intent to reveal story points of pop culture content, we wanted to make sure that we asked for a level of decorum in how all of that was dealt with.”
Controlling the internet is definitely something that isn’t going to happen. Not even the mighty Marvel Studios withDisneyat their side can do anything about information leaking out, but they still try through a variety of different avenues. However, when fans see something that they have been waiting so long to see, they’re going to want to discuss with other rabid fans. Anthony Russo had this to say.
“We certainly respect the idea that when you see a film, you want to discuss it, you want to talk about it, you want to share your experience. And that’s a really important part of the process. But it’s trying to establish a window where people are given the opportunity to see the film.”
If theRusso Brotherswould have had their way, theAvengers: Endgamespoiler ban would have lasted another week. Some fans were not able to see the movie for the first time until weeks after it hit theaters, which is surprising since it made so much money at the box office in the first two weeks. At the time, it was hard to bump into someone who had not seenEndgameon the big screen.
Marvel Studioswill continue to do the best they can in regard to protecting their fans from seeing or hearing about something that may spoil their experience.
