Austrian Oak and Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is joining forces with streaming giant Netflix for an as-yetuntitled spy adventure series. The legendary action star will both star in and executive produce the show, which will mark Schwarzenegger’s first time ever as a regular on a scripted television series.

The upcoming spy show will followArnold SchwarzeneggerandTop Gun: Maverickstar Monica Barbaro as a father and daughter caught in the center of a tale of global intrigue. The untitled show is the creation ofPrison BreakandScorpionwriter Nick Santora, who is also working on theJack Reachershow for Amazon. Santora Schwarzenegger are also on board as producers on the project, alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost for production company Skydance Television as part of an overall deal with Santora.

Schwarzenegger putting his name to a television series is a pretty big deal and shows just how much the medium has changed over the last few decades thanks to the emergence of streaming. Time was the small screen was where actors went when their career had begun to decline, but the Schwarzenegger name remains a hugely popular one and should ensure that a large audience tune in to watch hisespionage escapades.

Of course, this is not the first time that Arnie has played secret agent, with the Netflix spy series even baring some similarities to the 1994 action hitTrue Lies. Secretly a spy but thought by his family to be a dull salesman, Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is tracking down nuclear missiles in the possession of Islamic jihadist Aziz (Art Malik). Harry’s mission is complicated when he realizes his neglected wife, Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), is contemplating an affair with Simon (Bill Paxton), a used-car salesman who claims he’s a spy. When Aziz kidnaps Harry and Helen, the secret agent must save the world and patch up his marriage at the same time.

Written and directed by James Cameron,True Liesstars Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Art Malik, Tia Carrere, Bill Paxton, Eliza Dushku, Grant Heslov and Charlton Heston alongside Schwarzenegger. Indeed, many will no doubt be disappointed that thisNetflixproject is not a sequel to the beloved action comedy. An idea that waskicked around for years, Curtis sadly crushed dreams of those hoping forTrue Lies 2last year saying, “I don’t think we could ever do another ‘True Lies’ after 9/11.”

Schwarzenegger recently underwent heart surgery, not for the first time, with the actor assuring fans that he was recovering well. “Thanks to the team at the Cleveland Clinic, I have a new aortic valve to go along with my new pulmonary valve from my last surgery,” he said via social media. “I feel fantastic and have already been walking the streets of Cleveland enjoying your amazing statues. Thank you to every doc and nurse on my team!”

HisTrue Liesco-star Jamie Lee Curtis was quick to send her best wishes to Schwarzenegger saying, “You have a big heart muscle @Schwarzenegger. Heal and get back to helping the world one rep at a time!” This comes to us fromCollider.
