TheTwisted Metalseries has found its home. PerDeadline, the video game adaptation is heading to NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock where it has just been given a full series order. As previously reported, the show starsAnthony Mackie(The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), who’s also set to lead his own Captain America movie for Marvel Studios and Disney.

Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) is writing the series and will serve as showrunner. Mackie and Smith are executive producing alongside Will Arnett and Marc Forman under their Electric Avenue production banner. The series is based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool,Zombieland). The project is a collaboration between Sony Pictures TV, Playstation Productions, and Universal Television. Reese and Wernick are also executive producing with Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios.

Twisted Metal TV Show Is Officially Happening at PlayStation Productions

Based on the video games,Twisted Metalis a high-octane action-comedy series about a “motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”

Mackie’s character, John Doe, is described as a “smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.”

Twisted Metal Has Needed a Live-Action Adaptation for Over 25 Years

A release date hasn’t yet been announced on Peacock for theTwisted Metalseries.
