Andrew Garfieldis open to returning asSpider-Manonce more, but it sounds like he doesn’t want to do the same old thing. Garfield played Peter Parker / Spider-Man in 2012’sThe Amazing Spider-Manand 2014’sThe Amazing Spider-Man 2before the film series was scrapped in favor of rebooting the webslinger as part of the MCU. Garfield reprised his role as Peter Parker, now lovingly dubbed Peter 3, inSpider-Man: No Way Homein 2021, where he shared the screen with Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. Since then, fans have been wondering if Garfield would ever reprise his role as Spider-Man once more.
While attending the Abu Dhabi Comic Con, Garfield was asked what would get him to return as Spider-Man. Garfield said, via Comic Book Movie, that he would love to play Spider-Man again. Yet his big desire is for his next return as Spider-Man to be unconventional, something unexpected, and surprising. Garfield notably used the word “weird” twice, suggesting the actor doesn’t just want to return for a conventional Spider-Man film. Garfield said:

“I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird. I think I would like to do something very strange, I would want to do something very unique, and offbeat and surprising.”
What Does ‘Weird’ Mean When it Comes to Spider-Man
What Garfield means by “weird” or “strange” is obviously subjective. Garfield’s comments might hint at the rumor that he will appear inSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which was recently scheduled for a June 2027 release date. That film has been delayed because it is supposedly pushing the boundaries of animated films. Part of that could be to realistically incorporate live-action actors, like Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, into animated worlds and vice versa, building on whatWho Framed Roger Rabbitdid in 1988. That certainly would be unexpected and a big gamble forSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Everything We Know About ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
‘Spider-Man 4’s details are largely being kept under wraps, but here’s what to expect from the cast, story, and release date.
Many fans are assuming that Garfield will reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man inAvengers: Secret Wars, whose rumored setting, Battleworld, suggests that various Marvel universes will be mergedinto one reality. This could allow Garfield’s Spider-Man to exist alongside other MCU heroes and multiversal variants. Garfield’s Spider-Man could be living on Spider Island like in the comics, or even play a different version of Peter Parker. He could play a version of the 1602 Spider-Man, Peter Parquagh.

He could also play a version of The Superior Spider-Man, a version of the character that has the mind of Doctor Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus in the body of Peter Parker. It would allow Garfield to play a slightly more sinister version of Peter Parker, one that fits in with the darker tone thatThe Amazing Spider-Manfilms originally were aiming for. It would also be appropriate, as the Superior Spider-Man story kicked off in 2012, the year Garfield’sThe Amazing Spider-Manhit theaters, and was resolved in 2014 in time forThe Amazing Spider-Man 2.Though the actor has denied his involvement inAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Wars, following his lying during the press tour beforeSpider-Man: No Way Home, not many people believe him. It will be a waiting game to see.
