The series at present is currently unavailable on anymajor streaming servicein the U.S., so this is a big get for Netflix. Right now, most of us are dealing with quarantine, stuck at home with social distancing orders in place in the interest of public health. With that, streaming services have become a crucial part of day-to-day life, and binge-watching more of a prevalent activity than ever before.Avatar: The Last Airbendercould make for quite the binge, be it as a first time viewer or someone revisiting the animated show once again.
For those who may not be familiar,Avatar: The Last Airbenderwascreated by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzkoand made its debut on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran until 2008, airing a total of 61 episodes. The show centers on a 12-year-old boy named Aang who is discovered by a young girl Katara and her brother Sokka. They soon realize that Aang is an Avatar, the last of the Airbenders. With the dreaded Fire Nation on the brink of global domination, Aang, along with his trusty pal Appa, must face his destiny and save the world.
During its run, the show garnered a great deal of critical acclaim and has maintained a loyal following in the years since it went off the air. M. Night Shyamalan directed a live-action movie adaptation, The Last Airbender, which arrived in theaters in 2010. The movie was panned by critics upon arrival and did not perform very well financially. After that,a sequel series called The Legend of Korrawas produced, which aired from 2012 to 2014. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko returned for the follow-up as well. For now, there is no indication thatThe Legend of Korrawill be available to stream as well, but that could come at a later time.
Netflix is currently working on a live-action adaptation ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderas a series. The project was originally announced in September 2018, but updates have been few and far between in the time since. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on that front.
