When directorRidley Scottrolled outPrometheusin 2012, we knew it was a prequel to the director’s 1979 classicAlien, but most fans were disappointed that it didn’t connect to the original movie as much as it was set up to. As it turns out,Prometheuswas just the beginning, as it was announced that it’s follow-up,Alien: Covenant, will kick off a newprequel trilogythat will connect directly toAlien. Production recently wrapped in Australia, and while we don’t know when the first footage will be released, starMichael Fassbenderteased some interesting details in a new interview.
This weekend,Michael Fassbenderreturns to the big screen in the DreamWorks dramaThe Light Between The Oceans, and while promoting that movie in an interview withCollider, the actor offered some new details aboutAlien: Covenant. The story has been confirmed to be set 10 years after the events ofPrometheus, with a colony ship dubbed Covenant discovering what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, withMichael Fassbender’s android David as the only inhabitant. When asked about this new project,Michael Fassbenderhad this to say.

“I have to say, thisAlienis going to be - I’m really excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying that there’s a film that we all wanna see. It’s much scarier thanPrometheus, but it’s got that sort of same scope asPrometheus, that imminent sort of disaster feel thatAlienhad. So it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary, number one. And again, with the massive scope ofPrometheus… Yeah, you know once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it’s definitely going to bring chills to the cinema.”
Michael Fassbenderwill be joined byNoomi Rapace’sElizabeth Shaw, the only human survivor of thePrometheusexpedition, who is said to have been on the Australia set for a few weeks of filming. Before production had begun, there had been a number of conflicting reports claiming that she either was returning, or that she wouldn’t be in the movie, but, as far as we know now, she will have a part inAlien: Covenant. Naturally, we don’t know how large or small her role is, and it’s always possible that it could be cut out during the editing process.
Michael Fassbenderwill be joined byKatherine Waterston, who has been widely rumored to playRipley’s mother,Danny McBride,Demian Bichir,Jussie Smollett,Amy Seimetz,Carmen EjogoandCallie Hernandez.Ridley Scottdirects from a script byJack Paglen,Michael GreenandJohn Logan, with 20th Century Fox setting an July 31, 2025 release date, putting it up against Open Road Films’Blazing Samurai.
