“We got the whole gang, the ‘A’ story, ‘B’ story, ‘C,’ ‘D,’ it’s all them. “Charlie Day’s character [Charlie Kelly] has a pretty significant storyline in our episode.”

Abbott Elementary executive producers shared an exciting update about the show’s buzzed-about crossover with Always Sunny.

The news of the two TV comedies coming together created a lot of buzz online when it was teased. Fans, and even the shows' creators, wondered how the lovable teachers of Abbott would mix with the unlovable dirtbags of Paddy’s Pub.

“It was kind of a joke at first that the two shows should cross over. On paper, it feels like they’d be a real tonal mishmash. But then Rob and Charlie came to our writers' room, and we hashed out some real broad-stroke ideas,” Schumacker said, “All those concerns that we had about the tones of the shows butting against each other were alleviated the second we started filming with Charlie.”

The Beating Heart of Philadelphia

Sitcom fans are looking forward to seeing how these shows' comedy styles mesh on screen. The clever joke writing and character dynamics ofAbbottwill be an interesting contrast tothe booze-soaked un-PC antics of The Gang, who regularly ruin the lives of everyone they come into contact with. Pittingthe selfless teachers of Abbottagainst perhaps the most selfish characters ever to grace the TV is a recipe for perfect comedic tension. Although it’s surprising Charlie, Dee, Mac, Frank and Dennis are even allowed within 500 yards of a school at this point with their repugnant hijinks, including faking a baby funeral, pretending to be terrorists, and trapping their enemies in a burning building – just to name a few.

Abbott Elementaryjust kicked off Season 4, which will run for 22 episodes, andAlways Sunnyis currently filming Season 17. As such, there has been speculation whether the teachers and faculty of Abbott will find themselves captured by the ruinous gravity of The Gang. When asked if a reverse crossover was a possibility, Schumacker added, “Great question! I don’t know that we’re allowed to answer that question right now.” ButAbbottstar Sheryl Lee Ralph dropped a hint on the red carpet that some characters might be paying a reciprocal visit to Paddy’s Pub.
