Alex Garland Is Doing What Every Video Game Movie Filmmaker Should Do
In the past few years, video game adaptations have been on the rise. Well, more specifically, goodmovies and shows based on the immersive medium. Every adaptation has a different approach to the source material, fromThe Last of UstoA Minecraft Movie. However, remaining accurate to the video game continues to be a hot topic, especially after HBO’s hit post-apocalyptic show disappointed some longtime fans in Season 2. NO matter the case, it has become clear that the creative mind behind the adaptations should be intimately familiar with the source material. Fortunately,Elden Ringfans have nothing to worry about.
Alex Garland is a massiveElden Ringfan. In fact, he was still playing the game earlier this year. While he remains secretive about his A24 adaptation, Garlandrevealed that he is diving deep into the world, going on his “seventh playthrough” of the main storyline with his character. It’s unclear how faithful his film will be, but it is clear that a labor of deep love for the source material is on the way.

“I’m now on the seventh playthrough of that game. I’ve leveled up. I’ve got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again. That was the technique I learned withDark Souls. It’s not that you get better, it’s more like monkeys and typewriters. You just keep doing it and eventually, one day they’re dead.”
