“1950. William Lee, an American expat in Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, new to the city, shows him, for the first time, that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody.”
Despite positive reviews from critics, particularly around Craig’s performance,Queerwas shut out of the 97th Academy Awardsalongside Guadagnino’s other critically acclaimed 2024 film,Challengers.Queeralso was a box office disappointment, as it brought in only $4 million worldwide against a reported $50 million budget. WithQueernot nominated for any major Oscars, A24 certainly is in no rush to put it out before the awards show, and instead are aiming for a date nearly a month after the Academy Awards.

Did the Academy Really Forget About One of the Best Movies of the Year?
‘Challengers’ was one of the best-reviewed films of 2024 and seemed like an Oscar contender, but its early-in-the-year release may have hurt it.
Max, a division of Warner Bros. Discovery, also wantsQueeron their service as both the film’s director and star could be helming a major DC project.Director Luca Guadagnino is reportedly in talks to directSgt. Rock, which is based on a WWII DC Comics character who recently appeared in the Max animated seriesCreature Commandos. Daniel Craig is rumored to be eyed to play the lead role of Sgt. Rock, which would be part of James Gunn’s DCU. With Guadagnino and Craig seemingly set to be part of the DC Universe, maybe Warner Bros. could spin comic book fans' excitement into getting them to watch the duo’s previous collaboration inQueer.
