Ruben plays the killer, but is he the most evil entity inA Wounded Fawn? The film starts with his character killing an unsuspecting victim, but who are the strange-looking, masked characters who continue to pop up toward the second half of the trailer? The official synopsis for the Shudder movie reads:
“A Wounded Fawn follows the story of Meredith Tanning, a local museum curator who is dipping her toe back into the dating pool, only to be targeted by a charming serial killer. When a fateful romantic getaway between the two becomes a tense game of cat and mouse, both must confront the madness within him.”
A Wounded Fawnstars Sarah Lind alongside Ruben, with Malin Barr, Katie Kuang, Laksmi Priyah Hedemark, Tanya Everett, Marshall Taylor Thurman, Neal Mayer, Nikki James, and Leandro Taub rounding out the cast. Travis Stevens Reveals His Intentions WithA Wounded Fawn
A Wounded Fawnbegins to look like the typical charming guy-serial killer movie at the start of the trailer. However, it quickly turns into something much more as the disturbing images flash on screen throughout the first preview. Director Travis Stevens spoke withSoundstripeand revealed his inspiration for the film and why he wanted to stray away from the familiarhorror tropesinA Wounded Fawn.
“So the original script that had come to me had the basic premise of a serial killer and a woman going on a date in this cabin. I had already sort of done a couple of films which explore different ‘bad men’, so I was like — ‘what can I do with this?’ I wanted to find something a little bit different with this one. So that was my inspiration. I really liked looking outside the story and into this surrealist art movement where there were so many parallels there in how so many male artists would draw inspiration (and seep the energy) from the female members of the movement, which I found to be similar to what a serial killer does to his victims. Once I started on that thread it was just fun to try to bring some of that same imagery from different surrealist paintings to life and as a way to help approach this project differently from the ones I’d done before.
