Anime has taken over the world. While it used to be a niche form of entertainment once upon a time, it has now gotten evenmore popular than before. This genre has grown progressively, which means there are so many anime out there withvarious kinds of plots and stories. However, due to the abundance, it can be difficult to establish which anime would go down in the books as being a classic or which would be a disappointment. There are times when certain anime look promising until the last episode. It could be because of production issues or perhapsanime overrunning the mangaand fumbling the ending. Below is a list of anime that were popular from the beginning, but their ending completely ruined their reputation.
Akame Ga Kill
Akame Ga Killtells the tale of Tatsumi, a villager who goes to the Capital in order to raise money. However, things take a turn when he discovers how corrupt the entire empire is.
Despite the intriguing and compelling premise,Akame Ga Kill, unfortunately, suffered from the anime overrunning its manga as it was still in progress. The part which led to its demise was the sheer fact that the anime was created at least three years prior to the manga coming to an end. This led to a fairly botched conclusion that no fan liked.

One of the worst parts was the severe amount of death that happened in the final episode. The deaths also include Tatsumi, literally the main protagonist, who perishes while attempting to save citizens. Not only this, but the anime ended up contradicting itself with numerous things, for instance, some superpowers being able to perform things that they shouldn’t be capable of doing or certain characters suddenly knowing information that they didn’t. All of these plot holes left a bad taste in viewers' mouths and ended up calling it an anime with one of the worst endings ever.
The Promised Neverland
The show revolves around Emma and Norman residing in an orphanage center. However, they soon realize things are not how they seem, and the place where they reside is essentially a breeding ground for kids to eventually become a meal for demonsThe Promised Neverlandwas extremely popular among the watchers for its unique premise with dark twists. It had everyone hooked from the get-go and everyone was obsessed with the show. However, the anime’s ending completely tripled its initial hype! The second season completely diverted from its manga, which led to an extremely rushed plot that was not only cut short but didn’t even make sense.
One of the most crucial parts of the story was character building; however, the writers entirely skipped on major character developments which ended up leading to an ending that was simply hollow. For instance, demons are never really fought, or the fact that Isabella never redeems herself. The audience is left feeling underwhelmed as nothing is really accomplished despite having immense potential.

The show had an extremely promising start; however, it went in a downward spiral since then. This story’s enigmatic happy ending is the result of numerous revelations and significant problems that were never addressed. To put it succinctly, it was a cliffhanger and cop-out ending that chose not to answer several questions that were crucial for the character’s relationships.
The show started by dealing with some extremely complicated topics. However, it reduces it to a mere evil AI being a mastermind controlling everyone and everything rather than continuing to investigate the social factors that contribute to the suicide epidemic. Many people were extremely disappointed by the last-minute plot twist in which Koito was revealed to have died by accident. This poor writing and execution just throws all their anticipation and love down the drain.

Soul Eater
The series' storyline centers on Maka, a “master” of DWMA, the renowned Death Weapon Meister Academy, and Soul Eater is her living weapon. She attempts to transform her power into a “death scythe” by ingesting the souls of evil people. The series got everyone hooked, but after episode 35, the anime started straying from the manga, which left many fans feeling extremely disappointed.Soul Eatermainlyemphasized teamwork and being strategicover the cliché trope of the strongest person winning the battle. However, the ending ended up contradicting the entire theme that it was based on. Its biggest sin was deviating from the ending of the manga, which led to the anime completely forgetting all the rules of its very own universe, which resulted in a poorly thought-out ending.

Tokyo Ghoul
The storyline ofTokyo Ghoulcenters on Ken Kaneki, who is a college student that is barely able to escape a fatal attack by a ghoul. Kaneki discovers that he underwent surgery which made him a half-ghoul. Many people will be baffled by seeing this renowned anime on this, especially considering how much love and praise it initially got. While its manga is extremely loved to this day, its anime botched the entire story and was an utter mess.
There is no doubt in admitting that cliffhanger finales are not interesting, and has lazy writing, especially when they have no follow-up. This anime strays into a very bizarre territory, considering how at times it followed the manga for all scenes for scenes, but would then suddenly deviate from it. Because of it, the plot turned out to be hasty and incoherent. The story simply deteriorated into a chaotic muddle by dropping crucial plot lines. The majority of devotees felt that the ending was so horrible that they would prefer that new viewers read the manga, instead of going through painful watching experiences.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
The events in this anime take place fifteen years after a catastrophic event, especially since it is set in Tokyo-3, the futuristic fortified city. It particularly revolves around Shinji Ikari, a young man hired by his father into the mysterious organization named Nerv. He is a bio-mecha, which was used in the iconic battle against “Angels.“Neon Genesis Evangelionwas claimed to be one of the most, if not thebest, anime out there. It was revolutionary in all senses from its music, design, and themes. However, this anime saw its demise because of various reasons, mainly production issues. Its studio, Studio Gainax, was unfortunately infamous for suffering through budget issues.
Unfortunately, the anime suffered at the end of the burn with poor writing. The last two episodes were extremely awful and featured a lot of stock footage and unnecessary philosophical rants and monologues. The preponderance of the plot lines in the anime is left unresolved, rather than neatly summing up the story. This led many fans to feel extremely underwhelmed, especially because they were hoping for a more satisfying conclusion. The backlash was so severe that in order to redeem themselves they made a movie with a better ending; however, even that wasn’t enough to cover the mess they created withNeon Genesis Evangelion’s ending.
